Give Every Shot a Cockeyed look!

A book published by Jack Nicklaus in 1965. Tournament spectators will notice that a great many Tournament pros turn their heads to the right just before starting the backswing, an action that is especially marked in myself and Sam Snead. This cocking of the head is something more than just a nervous twitch.  It serves 3 valuable purposes.  1: It's a positive move,  like the forward press of the hands, from which to start the backswing.  2: Turning the head to the right makes it possible to take a longer,  freer turn with the hole body.  3: A method by which we help brace ourselves against swaying to the left on the downswing and moving our body out ahead of the ball at impact.

Get Distance First and Control Later

It has long been thought that the proper way to teach children to play golf is to insist that they only learn a careful, deliberate swing first, then strive for distance. But I feel that just the opposite is correct. A youngster first trying golf will enjoy the game more if allowed to whale away at the ball, and he will be developing the muscles he needs to become a stronger hitter.  Once he has achieved distance,  he can learn control while hitting a long ball. An especially important factor in distance hitting is leg strength. Learning to swing by combining a full body turn with a long backswing will help develop the left leg.  If the golfer does this when he is young he will get the leg strength needed to hit very long shots.

THE Swing Plane::::

The Swing Plane: In Golf we consider the ground as a horizontal plane  and your body when you stand upright can be considered a vertical plane. As you swing, your golf club will describe an incline plane  somewhere between horizontal and vertical. The longer the club, the flatter the plane (more horizontal) and shorter clubs will describe a steeper plane (more vertical). Each club has it own swing plane which is determined by the angle formed between the club head and the shaft, were the club is soled properly on the ground (the lie). The shaft should follow this plane due to centrifugal force as you rotate your hips and torso about your axis of rotation.
